Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) both begin their campaigns for a fourth consecutive playoffs tilt, and with both sides looking even stronger after successful trading periods, an exciting battle awaits.
KKR have added two exciting all-rounders in Joe Denly, Carlos Brathwaite as well as Englishman Harry Gurney, who comes here off the back of a title-winning campaign with the Melbourne Renegades. Anrich Nortje would have completed a scary seam attack had it not been for a shoulder injury which forces him out for the tournament.
SRH ought to be dealing out heavy scores throughout the campaign with their roster: not only is David Warner available for the entirety of the tournament, but he is joined by fellow big-hitters Martin Guptill and Jonny Bairstow.
Should those high-profile names falter, the Sunrisers boast the inimitable trio of Bhuvi Kumar, Siddharth Kaul and Rashid Khan to ensure that any opposing batsman will face unrelenting pressure.
KKR have won five of seven at home against SRH, though it’s worth noting SRH’s two away wins both came in 2018 (including the second qualifier). SRH have won just once at Eden Gardens when batting second.
Fantasy Cricket- Players to watch out for
Chris Lynn (KKR) had a very disappointing 2018/19 BBL, compiling just 385 runs in 13 inns (avg 35, SR 126).
Mohammad Nabi (SRH) was instrumental in the Melbourne Renegades’ success in the BBL and more recently enjoyed a fairly successful limited overs home series against Ireland.
KKR have won six of seven matches against SRH when losing the toss! A good one to lose for Dinesh Karthik.
KKR have won 25 of 39 home matches as the favourite (64.10%), while SRH have won 11 of 28 (39.29%) as the away favourite.
The average IPL first innings score at Eden Gardens is 158 (the sixth-highest of the eight 2019 venues).
KKR have a league-high average powerplay score of 48.
