With Tamil Nadu Premier League just a couple of weeks away, the cricket fanaticism in South is alive once again. The fans await TNPL’s grand spectacle where 8 teams will lock horns for the coveted Tamil Nadu Premier League’s trophy. The 3rd edition of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) kicks off on 11th June as Dindigul Dragons will take on Ruby Trichy Warriors in Tiruneveli.
N Srinivasan’s dominance in the form of Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League made the Southerns fall in love with the game. CSK’s two year ban from IPL left the fans in anguish which led to the establishment of a whole new league in Tamil Nadu. In today’s time, there’s nothing Tamilians love more than cinema and good cricket.
Unearthing new talent and the process of giving that particular thing a shape; it takes time but Tamil Nadu Premier League has reversed the trend in every sense.
Washington Sundar is one such case. He did wonders in TNPL and got picked by one of IPL teams. As of now, he has represented Indian cricket team and is a serious contender for every T20 game. Sundar will be representing Dindigul Dragons again this season. T Natrajan’s heroics in the league also led to his breakthrough to Kings XI Punjab in IPL.
8 teams will be giving it their all this season and it will be very difficult for Chepauk Super Gillies to retain the trophy. Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar were grabbed by Idream Karaikudi Kaalai and Chennai Super Gillies respectively.
Indian legend Anil Kumble’s Spektacom technology will also feature in this TNPL. Spektacom is a technology which will be helping in tracking the bat speed, power and whether the ball hit the sweet spot of the bat or not. This is a technology that will be operated through a smart sticker. When the batsman puts the sticker on his bat, his bat will become a smart bat.
The buzz in Southern states is for real. The quality of cricket has improved each year in leaps and bounds. For Tamilians, it’s nothing less than a festival.
