Cricket IPL 2019

3 possible candidates for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captaincy

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s CEO K.Shanmugam has confirmed on twitter that David Warner will be stepping down as the captain of the franchise. This comes after the ball tampering incident which happened in the SA-Aus test match. It has sparked one of the biggest controversies in the history of cricket. Steven Smith had already announced that he will also be stepping down as the skipper of Rajasthan Royals.

“In light of recent events, David Warner has stepped down as captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad,” Shanmugan tweeted. “The new captain of the Team will be announced shortly.”

3 possible candidates for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captaincy:

1. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan stands out as the frontrunner for the captaincy role. The opening batsman has been with the franchise since 2013 and is certainly a crowd favorite. Dhawan has scored over 3500 runs in IPL and possesses the much-needed experience to thrive.

2. Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson is another player who has great chances of getting the captaincy job. He captains the New Zeland side in all three formats. Williamson has done the damage with his bat whenever he has been given the chances.
3. Shakib Al Hasan
Bangladesh’s captain Shakib Al Hasan is also a strong contender for the captaincy job. Shakib Al Hasan is one of the best all-rounders right now in world cricket with experience in abundance. He has played in a number of T20 leagues which puts him on the radar for obvious reasons.
Fun fact: Among the 3 candidates, Shakib Al Hasan is the only one who has represented a couple of teams as captain. He has represented Khulna Royal Bengals & Dhaka Dynamites as the skipper. Williamson and Dhawan seem to have no experience of representing any T20 league team as such.
