2019 World Cup: 3 Indian players who could be playing their last ever World Cup

The ICC World Cup 2019 is less than a couple of weeks away and the hype for the tournament is unreal. It could not get better for cricket fans as IPL 12 recently got concluded and we have World Cup to watch now.

All the teams in the tournament have looked for a good blend of youth and experience. Indian selectors have also put their trust in the experienced lot. India are one of the favourites for Cricket World Cup 2019.

There’s no denying the fact that some of the Indian players in 2019 World Cup squad are past their prime and might possibly be playing their last ever World Cup.

Let us take a look at 3 Indian players who could be playing their last ever World Cup –

#3 Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik’s spot in Indian team for CWC 2019 was a topic of debate. A number of people thought it was unfair on Rishabh Pant who has been in scintillating form.

Dinesh Karthik is 33 right now and this is going to be his last World Cup by the looks of it. Karthik has a good record with the bat in England.

Dinesh Karthik also has tons of experience and he knows how to finish games. Despite the criticism off-late, it will be interesting to see how Karthik performs.

#2 Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan and ICC tournaments – There’s not a better love story than this. The bigger the stage, the better Shikhar ‘Gabbar’ Dhawan performs.

Just like Dinesh Karthik, he is also 33 years old and will hang his boots in a couple of years. There’s a lot of competition for the opener spot and it will be quite tough for Shikhar Dhawan to be a part of India’s starting XI, let alone play 2023 World Cup.

Shikhar Dhawan must be having his eyes set on 2019 World Cup trophy. He loves playing in English conditions and his opening partnership with Rohit Sharma can take on any bowling attack.

#1 MS Dhoni

One of the India’s greatest players to have donned the Indian jersey, MS Dhoni has won every single major trophy. Currently 37-years-old, it is most likely his last ever World Cup and it will be quite fitting to end up with 2nd World Cup trophy in his bag.

With Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and Wriddhiman Saha waiting in the line to replace MS Dhoni, he will hang his boots anytime soon post World Cup.

Despite touching late-40s mark, MS Dhoni’s fitness is exemplary, however, you can’t hide away from the truth that he is going to retire one day.
